This reminds me of the Viacom / DirectTv debacle last year. Viacom being the content provider (NetFlix in this case) had drastic control considering the best way to get Viacom channels was to get a different provider.

Austin is good and bad. Good because it is rarely busy, bad because it only does body scanners and it is very slow to get through security.

Seattle was pretty terrific, they had plenty of staff and a mix of body scanners and metal detectors. Also, I had an 8oz bottle of fluid and he was good about putting me to the side out of the way (most of the time you stand like a dolt blocking traffic). He then re-ran my luggage and then for some reason telling me the fluid ounces of every liquid in my luggage like I was 5 years old. I imagine the information talk is helpful to others, and either way it was nice to be treated like a human.

However, Seattle's train system is very confusing. Instead of one train like Atlanta, they have at least 4. To get from Terminal C to Terminal A, I needed to take 3 trains. I could have walked in the time it took to get on one and wait for another twice. They have a good food selection.

San Antonio is not modern at all, they have plans to rebuild one of the terminals in 2014. They have only one smartphone scanner, so it's a good idea to print your boarding pass. Food selection is awful, McDonald's and a fried chicken place are the highlights. The rebuild mentions this as a major new feature with 'local businesses' being added to the new Terminal.

Atlanta is very efficient, but the inhumanness of the employees working there perturbs me. They need to increase morale of the employees, because it is rare for me to have a pleasant experience for anybody outside of a bar tender. It's like going to Disney World with all the people, but Mickey has a frown pained over his mouth.

Years ago, Georgia removed the 4% sales tax on groceries. In Chatham County where I live, if we pass the T-SPLOST, it will combine with the LOST, the SPLOST, and the E-SPLOST to add up to (guess what?) a 4% tax on groceries. Is this really what people want? Not me. I'm voting NO.

To the contrare of Jim Cramer and most of the brokerage sites. I think that getting back to the basics is brilliant.

For instance, in Atlanta, we all have Southern Company (SO) providing power - a DRIP program would reinvest the quarterly dividends for free and make it easy to add to the plan. Because it's a monopoly and most of its investors are institutional or people who like getting the dividend, the stock price should not change too drastically. WIth something stable like this, you shouldn't worry about market timing, just keep it for years until you decide to cash out some.

I've learned not to rely on a house as an investment, but other than my Roth IRA I haven't bought any stocks. I think it's because the online trading sites assume that I know what I'm doing, yet I feel that I don't. Can you recommend any guides that take you through the entire process of buying and selling, with best-practices?

From his Capital Gains losses, he has recently had

Ishares Russel 1000 Growth - Various (1.33% div yield)

Ishares Russel Midcap - Various (1.5% div yield)

Ishares DJ Select Dividend (3.4%)

Nuveen High Yield (NA / Bond / Muni Bond)

Templeton Income (est 5.76% div yield)

It would be another stretch to guess his investment style based solely on his previous capital gains losses, but, if we did jump to that conjecture, 2% is a pretty reasonable guess.

Found this after I googled zipcar experiences... My Jeep is breaking down and I'm debating whether to do zipcar or get a new car. Like you - I metro to work everyday - and didn't realize my car stopped working for a good week because I don't drive that often... I know I'll eventually need a car - and I don't know if I'll be able to fix my car right now, but I'm sorely tempted to get a zipcar.

I paid up front, so no monthly car bills. I did liability b/c comprehensive more than doubled, which means accidents 1 so far are out of pocket. Georgia charges you ad valorum tax, at purchase then again at your birthday, so I got hit with that twice in two months.

Initial cost: $10,000 (4 years old)
Insurance (liability, hit&run only): $480/year
Repair (snowpocalypse): $700
Robbed, new key, rekey locks on car: $300
Initial (Gov't screwing little guy) Tax: $180
Yearly ad valorum: $180/year
Tags: $35/year

I've tried really hard to keep costs down, obviously getting liability on a fairly new car. In the end, I wish I had kept my Tennessee car and my Tennessee driver's license. There's no ad valorum there, and having a newer car has done nothing but cause heart ache like when it came back from the shop with 20 white scratches on the passenger side.
